What Is Drupal?
All websites created by Mustardseed Media are Content Management Systems. This means that they're more like pieces of software than like "web pages". It is this database-driven software that allows us to make our sites so interactive, easily plugging in Web 2.0 functionality such as blogging and podcasting.
The Drupal Content Management System is the software that we've chosen as the best solution for all of our church web development. It is an open source system that offers incredible flexibility and very robust functionality.
Why have we chosen Drupal?
Drupal is one of the most popular and respected CMS packages in the world. However, people still ask why we've chosen Drupal over other CMS systems such as Joomla or Wordpress. There's too many reasons to list, but here's just a few reasons we've chosen Drupal for our development platform:
- Total Site Customization When choosing a CMS, you have to make a decision: Do you want lots of functionality right 'out of the box' or do you want incredible flexibility? We chose Drupal because, even though it does virutally nothing out of the box, we like it that way!
Drupal is setup to be fully customized by a development professional. The Drupal folks don't make any assumptions about what I want to do and how I want to do it...that's a good thing because it allows us to customize your church website down to the most minute detail. Other systems dont allow this as easily because they're more rigid in structure
- Popular Development Tools Drupal uses extremely popular programming languages such as PHP, Xhtml, and CSS, and a popular software structure, using Apache, Linux, and MySQL databases. This means that there are hundreds of thousands of developers around the world that can work on the sites we build. This ensures long term support for our clients and offers more robust development possibilities.
- Large Development Community This use of popular languages has created a community formed around Drupal which is very strong. This community ensures that issues such as security or requested functionality are implemented reliably and quickly.
- Ease of Use When setup by a professional, the Drupal CMS is extremely easy for the end-user (that's you!) to operate. This means that we can build very powerful websites that anyone in your organization can update and manage without any HTML or other web skills.
